Keisha Sawyer-Roberts was born on July 6, 1975 at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia. Keisha was educated by Portsmouth and Southampton Public Schools and graduated June 1988. She earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in English from Virginia State University (VSU) in May 1998. Keisha’s childhood dream was to become a teacher and she would often play school on her Grandparents porch with her special fictional student “Michael”. Her dream became a reality after she graduated VSU and accepted a teaching position at Southampton High where she taught English for 7 years. She later served with Suffolk Public School system at Mack Benn Jr. Elementary School for 5 years.
On April 30, 2004, she pledged Franklin Tri-County Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. While employed at Mack Benn, she attended Cambridge College and received a Master’s Degree in Education with emphasis in Counseling on June 10, 2007. After graduating from Cambridge, she received a promotion to Guidance Counselor and accepted a position at Mount Zion Elementary School and then Lakeland High School until her sunset.
